
Mr. Llewellyn is a product of the PYLUSD having graduated from El Dorado High School in 1986 where he was a member of the Golden Hawks bands including the Marching Band, Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band under the direction of Richard Watson.
He then attended CSU Fullerton from August 1986 to June 1992 where earned his Bachelors of Arts degree in Music Education and a California Single Subject Teaching Credential in Music. While attending CSUF, he studies percussion with Todd Miller and Cliff Hulling, both members of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra. While attending Fullerton, Mr. Llewellyn performed with the University’s Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, and Jazz Combos.
From June 1992 to January 1999 he was the Director of Bands at La Sierra High School in Riverside, CA where he was responsible for the Marching Band, all Concert Bands and the Jazz Band. While at La Sierra High School he had a piece commissioned for the school’s Wind Ensemble for the 150th anniversary of the Alvord School District. While at La Sierra, Mr. Llewellyn was also the musical director for the James P. Johnson Foundation for Jazz. While with the Foundation he was responsible for conducting the Foundation’s Jazz Band. He had several arrangements commissioned for the Foundation’s Jazz Band of Johnson’s music. Under Mr. Llewellyn’s direction, the Foundation’s Jazz Band performed frequently around Riverside including performances at the yearly Orange Blossom Festival and the Riverside Jazz Festival.
From January 1999 to June 2008 Mr. Llewellyn taught elementary music for the PYLUSD at Fairmont, Golden, Sierra Vista, Ruby Dr., and Melrose elementary school. While teaching elementary music, he had the great pleasure to conduct the elementary honor band and honor orchestra several times. During his tenure teaching elementary music Mr. Llewellyn also conducted the percussion ensemble at South Pointe Middle School in the Walnut Valley USD. Under the direction of Mr. Llewellyn the South Pointe Percussion Ensemble performed with the school’s Wind ensemble on tours to New York (Carnegie Hall performance), Chicago, Boston, Florida and Harrogate, England. Mr. Llewellyn also participated in the commissioning and recording sessions of three pieces for the South Pointe percussion ensemble.
From June 2008 to June 2009 Mr. Llewellyn was the assistant band director at Esperanza High School in the PYLUD. While there he worked with the Marching Band and conducted the Concert Band and school’s Percussion Ensemble.
From June 2009 to the present, Mr. Llewellyn has proudly been the director of bands at Kraemer Middle School, conducting the Concert Band and Jazz Band.
Mr. Llewellyn is a member of the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association. Having been a percussion presenter at numerous SCSBOA conferences, Mr. Llewellyn has also served as an auditioner, manager and coach for both the middle school and high school honor groups. Mr. Llewellyn is a freelance percussionist performing regularly around Southern California with numerous classical and jazz ensembles.
Mr. Llewellyn is adjunct professor of music at Cal State Fullerton, teaching the percussion methods class to music education majors and one of the percussion ensemble classes.
